Call Out for Icons and Changemakers

A large part of the Highway to Hull Burlesque Weekender is to document our history, celebrate our trailblazers, and continue our rich burlesque legacy. 

Burlesque as we know it started in the UK, yet we have no official records, documentation, or awards to celebrate our history and those who have been a part of it. We have some incredible talent in the UK but no official way to recognise them. We want to change that. 

We have now launched our 2025 Icons and Changemakers form where you can nominate in three categories:

• Icon of the Year

This award honours someone who:

Has been performing or contributing to the scene since before 2010

Has made a long-term, significant impact on burlesque or cabaret

Is widely respected and recognised by their peers

Embodies performance excellence, legacy, and inspiration

Uplifts others and represents our shared community values

Nominate them if they:

Have consistently brought exceptional artistry, leadership, or mentorship over the years

Represent the history, resilience, and evolution of our scene

Have inspired generations of performers and creatives through their work and contributions

Examples: Industry legends, standout performers, longtime trailblazers

• Changemaker of the Year

This award honours someone who:

Has challenged norms and pushed for positive change

Amplifies underrepresented voices and communities

Advocates for safer, more inclusive, and accessible spaces

Has led a project or initiative that made a difference in 2025

Nominate them if they:

Have taken risks to shift the culture

Elevate others in bold, new, or brave ways

Spark conversations, build bridges, or make people feel seen

Examples: Activists, emerging producers, radical artists, community builders

• Supporter of the Year

This award honours someone who:

Lifts others up from behind the scenes

Shows up, shares, supports, or helps others grow

May not be centre stage but helps make the magic happen

Nominate them if they:

Are always cheering others on

Offer practical, emotional, or consistent support

Help the community thrive with no expectation of the spotlight

Examples: Volunteers, tech crew, photographers, superfans, allies

Include the person’s name (stage or real), and social media if relevant

A short paragraph (max 200 words) on why they deserve this recognition

Optional: a photo or link to their work

Deadline: 31st July 2025
