Coco Deville

"I began my cabaret journey in 2006, fresh from earning a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Theatre and Choreography, eager to carve my own creative path. What started as curiosity soon became a calling, I was completely captivated by the sheer freedom of cabaret.

From the very beginning, I wanted to tell stories that were relatable, fearless, and filled with joy. Stepping away from the traditional vintage revival style, I discovered my own playful, innovative voice. One that helped instigate the vibrant spirit of neo-burlesque to the UK scene to celebrate and champion identity, diversity and self-expression in professional spaces.

As one of the first performers of colour on the UK burlesque scene, I faced and challenged significant barriers. I confronted discrimination from promoters and venues, sparked important conversations around representation and worked to make cabaret a more inclusive, welcoming space for everyone.

My performances blend clowning, theatre and dance ,a mix that for me, is about far more than entertainment. It’s about the power of transformation and the beautiful escape that happens when performer and audience share a moment of creative energy together.

Through my work, I hope to challenge conventions, celebrate individuality, and empower others to take up space , unapologetically. Despite the challenges of being a Black performer in a predominantly white industry, I’m proud that my journey continues to inspire and create space for the next generation of artists and performers from all corners and walks of life."
